Dirt Cake Oreos

Dirty, Flirty, and Thriving
Nabisco officially released dirt cake Oreos on March 4th, 2024. Proper dirt cake (if there is such a thing) consists of layers of chocolate pudding, crushed Oreos, and gummy worms on top. It's a beloved treat that frequents children's birthday parties. I've scoured the internet, and the great dirt cake's origins are tragically unclear. It is likely midwestern, and it probably manifested sometime in the 1980s. Although the dirt cake's past is uncertain, the future of this beloved treat is bright! Dirt cake is still guaranteed to bring a little weirdness to any party. We can't wait to try these! We are B and V and WE RATE OREOS!

Creativity
B- Yes, definitely creative. This is another dessert you don't see done too often! On that note, I do wonder why people stopped making dirt cake an acceptable food after grade school. Like, please bring this back as a party or potluck dish - it's delish!

V- Full creativity points! The dirt cake Oreos are meta and elevated. There are two creme layers. One is brownie-flavored, and the other tastes like chocolate pudding. The creme layers are sandwiched between two chocolate Oreo cookies mixed with gummy worm bits. Taking an entire cake and recreating it in miniature Oreo form is genius!

Execution
V- I liked these! The gummy worm bits in the cookies were mostly performative. However, I appreciate how each chocolatey layer tasted a little different. The pudding layer felt lighter and creamier than the heavier brownie layer. You can't go wrong with a good chocolate explosion. I just wish they made the gummy worm aspect work!

B- These taste to me of brownie batter or chocolate mousse. They have two layers of cream so I see what they did there with the whole layering effect. I liked the idea of the gummi worms sprinkled into the cookie but they didn't add anything to the flavor or the texture from what I could tell - "mostly performative" was an apt way to describe them.

Does it Sparkle?
V- It sparkles! The gummy worm bits glitter in the morning sun! The creme layers are crisp and clear! If you stack the Oreos on top of each other, you have your very own statuesque, avant-garde Oreo dirt cake!

B- So sparkly.

Pairing
V- Pair these with real gummy worms and whiskey. Trust me.

B- Maybe something with raspberry! Or with Lunchables hehe (any other 90's kids out there??)

Buy Again
B- They're not bad, but not amazing. I probably wouldn't buy again. It takes something special to get a re-buy from me. PSST: the next installment *is* a re-buy from me :)

V- They are pretty good, but I am on to the next Oreo!

Overall
V- The creativity was all there! The flavors were ALMOST there!

B- What she (V) said!
