Strawberry Donut!

In March 2021, Nabisco sweetened our spring with strawberry-frosted donut flavored Oreos. How thoughtful! While donuts have become increasingly trendy over the past decade, the strawberry donut remains a childlike, cartoonish classic. Iconic on "The Simpsons" and with a design that screams "unicorns and rainbows," we are hoping these cookies bring great flavors and a hint of nostalgia. We are B and V and WE RATE OREOS! 

Creativity

V - How often do you attempt to turn a multi-flavored treat into a cookie? These are definitely creative. They have vanilla cookies and two distinct creme layers: one a glittery strawberry creme and the other bright beige and "donut" flavored. Nabisco has done this concept with the equally interesting jelly donut Oreos in the past. If they keep up this trend, they could make an assortment pack with all sorts of "donuts" to try! 

B - Ooh I like the assortment donut pack idea! They can make the cover of the box look like those by-the-dozen folding boxes. But, yes, these are very creative: Strawberry? Fine. Donut? It's been done. But never seen strawberry + donut in another non-donut item. Although gum flavors and hand sanitizers have tried some interesting ones. An aside: cookie dough should be left as cookie dough or ice cream only. I digress.

Execution

B - I did a side by side flavor analysis with a strawberry donut and... these actually *taste* like a strawberry donut. Which is not the same as tasting like strawberry, I might add.

V - Solid execution. The vanilla cookies make a good neutral palate for the two layers in-between that actually make up the strawberry donut flavor. The strawberry creme tastes completely artificial but you know what? I am into it! It's sugary, sweet, fun, and defiantly unhealthy like such a treat should be! The "donut" creme is okay. Its distinct flavors are indiscernible from the vanilla cookies, but not in a bad way. The pink creme is the star, and everything else props it up. 

Does it Sparkle?

B - Yes. They are pretty in pink. You can tell these cookies like the spotlight (and camera phone light) as they photograph very well.  

V - It literally sparkles!!! The strawberry creme is glittery with bits of sprinkles. Aesthetically, every bit of a classic strawberry donut is distinctly incorporated. Considering the area space of an Oreo and all of the elements for a frosted donut, this is impressive to me.

Pairing 

V - Strawberry-frosted Oreos are sweet, but not dramatically so. They thus lend themselves to many potential pairings! I enjoyed these with an iced coffee. They go well with anything cool, refreshing, and a just little sweet to keep the flavor profile consistent. For summer, fruity seltzers also pair well with the "candy-esque" strawberry creme.

B - Along the same lines, I do recommend a classic coffee pairing. I'm a black coffee drinker so I did not have to worry about saccharine overload. Very dunkable if you do that sort of thing. Specifically, I had them with DD's "glazed donut" flavored coffee. (And I'm still waiting on that endorsement, Big Coffee ;). 

Buy Again?

V - I tried! I cannot find them anywhere. 

B - Although the taste similarity is uncanny, I will still opt for the OG strawberry donut's texture and nostalgia over the Oreo version.

Cookies-N-Cream Nabisco went meta on us! Cookies-n-cream is a popular treat involving sandwich cookies mixed up in ice cream. However, you are usually not even getting real Oreos, just an off-brand! But, I appreciate how the filling is softer and creamier even though it seems to be the same vegan concoction we see in almost every other Oreo. I think it was the consistency they were going for. It was just a bit much for me!  B- I was not expecting to like these, but, I did, in a way.

Space Dunk Oreos

Killer Oreos From Outer Space January 29th, 2024, in a galaxy far far away, Nabisco's Space Dunk Oreos hit shelves! With probe Odysseus landing on the moon (the first one in decades to do so) in February and the rare eclipse happening in April, we have been partying to the moon and back! Maybe we'll finally get to meet the aliens! While this is not the first marshmallow-flavored space Oreo, it is the first to add pop rocks to the creme. Do the Space Dunk Oreos live up to the 2024 intergalactic hype? Let's find out together. We are B and V and WE RATE OREOS! Creativity V- Pop rocks and marshmallow as a flavor combo is certainly unique! If you liked it (like I did), then the risk paid off and you might find it creative. Cotton Candy Oreos

Cotton Candy Nabisco once again surprised us with a summer flavor nobody was expecting! Cotton Candy Oreos hit the shelves in June 2023. Cotton candy was invented in 1897 by a dentist! He probably wanted to keep the dental industry busy for years to come? Like Oreos, cotton candy has stayed popular for over a centennial. It's about time we saw this fusion! We are B and V and WE RATE OREOS! Creativity V-  All the creativity points! I am especially impressed with the incorporation of both blue and pink cotton candy in the creme. Thank goodness they went with the vanilla cookies (chocolate would have been a disaster)! It adds a new element to a timeless treat. This is my first cotton candy cookie, so kudos to Nabisco for the innovation. B- I agree with full points here. I have never seen cotton candy attempted as a cookie or even anything that didn't have it in a sugar crystal or candy-like form.   Execution B- It tastes like a carnival in your mouth.
