Marvelous Maple
Maple Magic
Sweet, sweet maple! Centuries ago, Native Americans first harvested maple trees for their sugary sappy insides. Early settlers experimented with maple as a potential cough syrup, energy tonic, and cure for pesky kidney problems. Today, maple remains a cherished North American staple. Nabisco released Maple Creme Oreos in August 2019. Will these cookies heal your ailments and, most importantly, are they delicious? We'll see! We are B and V and WE RATE OREOS!
Flavor Creativity
V- They have a creative spark! As the leaves change and the crisp fall begins, maple syrup, maple cookies, and even maple ice cream dominate the dessert scene. The maple creme, however, is something special. While the cookies are a complimentary vanilla, the maple insides give traditional maple flavoring a unique texture and extra sugary flavor profile.
B- Maple is in a lot of breakfast foods - here's looking at you, syrups and cereals - so it's not a novel flavor to the classic sweeteners however I don't see many cookies that are maple. Sure, you can find recipes, but it's not going to usually be sitting on the shelves. Plus, in the recent autumn pumpkin-flavored-everything phase, the maple is a sweet [yet still festive] change.
Flavor Execution
V- Spot. On. I would know this was maple blindfolded. The vanilla cookies are perfect for the maple creme, as they don't overpower the maple like the chocolate ones would. It's quite sweet and I taste rich hints of caramel, toffee, and (of course) maple. The creme is smooth and decadent.
B- It definitely tastes of maple. Don't hate me for saying it, but more like the artificial maple rather than the pure stuff. That being said, I love maple so doesn't matter much to me and it doesn't lose many points here.
Does it Sparkle?
B- It's a pretty cookie. The creme filling and cookie colors are nearly the same giving it a smooth, seamless appearance to match its smooth maple taste.
V- Yes. The orange and yellow colors on the package are joyful and energetic. Look at the package for too long, and you'll feel like eating a sleeve of these, raking your leaves, and running a marathon before 10pm.
Pairing
B- Coffee, vanilla bean ice cream, a trip to Toronto...
V- Part of a good breakfast! I dipped one in my maple and brown sugar oatmeal this morn and it was DELICIOUS. For a savory component, eat these with a side of bacon.
Buy Again?
V- Yes. I like strong flavors and these cookies deliver.
B- I did buy these again haha.
Final Thoughts
B- Maple: yes. Even my non-blogging associates said these were really good.
V- Well done! My post-apocalypse preparations will include an underground bunker stocked with 900 packs.
